This PhD research project, 'The postulated reader – conversations in type: grammar, syntax and composition', conducted by JESSICA GLASER, will investigate the complex, subliminal language, which is spoken, read, and understood in varying degrees by designers and readers alike.
There is little understanding of how this language functions, with most designers and readers simply citing instinct and habit as the root of their knowledge, rather than reasoned understanding.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The aims of the investigation are:
1 - To investigate what informs typographic instinct
2 - To identify how typographic habits are formed and perpetuated.
3 - To critically assess the design, selection, deployment and reading of typefaces
