The Baskerville Society

The Baskerville Society is an international society dedicated to the study of the eighteenth-century typographer, printer, industrialist and Enlightenment figure John Baskerville (1705/6-75)


The evening will include lectures by Dr Malcolm Dick from The Centre for West Midlands History, School of History and Cultures at the University of Birmingham and Dr Caroline Archer from The Typographic Hub, Birmingham Institute of Art & Design Birmingham City University.

The evening will include a performance of the little know 'Hic Jacet: or The corpse in the Crescent' about the thrice buried printer John Baskerville. Written for the BBC by Neville Brendon Watts it was first performed in 1947 and on this occassion will be staged by the Birmingham School of Acting.

A glass of Baskerville Bitter will be provided by the Two Towers Brewery and specially designed Baskerville Cakes will be available from Connie's Cake Emporium
